Art

For most people, the reason to study art is to learn to see better and to gain an appreciation of beauty.  I believe that everyone should learn to draw what they see with a fair amount of realism.  Doing so helps one see details.  For some, this comes more easily than others.  Some will be content just to be able to draw what they see when they must.  Others will want to pursue serious art studies.  I strongly believe that encouraging our children to develop their God-given talents and interests is very worthwhile.

We have enjoyed using the Draw Write Now books over the years.  They are an easy way learn to draw a step at a time for a child between the ages of about 6 and 8, and they also teach a bit of history along the way along with handwriting.  We use these once a week.

This includes the entire set of Draw Write Now books.

This is a wonderful book and has the great advantage of being an opportunity to "do art" with your children.  The differences that her techniques cause are amazing.

This book is the absolute classic for learning to draw for older children and adults.  If you have someone who can teach your children art or have that ability yourself, great.  If not, this book has been very helpful for many, many people who just want ot be able to draw what they see.
