Charlotte Mason Companion: Personal Reflections on the Gentle Art of Learning
by Karen Andreola (Paperback - April 1998)
Mrs. Andreola explains the Charlotte Mason method in this beautifully written
book. I felt as though I were reading a 19th Century author, though the text
was easy to understand and to figure out how to implement the ideas. I especially
like her method of helping a dawdler to work more efficiently. I highly
recommend this book as a good introduction to the wonderful ideas of Charlotte
Mason. |

the farm, and didn't have a television, so the time they spent learning they
spent because they loved it--that was their form of relaxation from the physical

Classroom ~ Usually ships in 24

Unschooling is a unique approach to education--one that uses children's natural
curiosity to propel them into a world of learning. This practical guide reveals
the secrets of unschooling success even as it addresses the misconceptions
and criticism unschoolers may encounter.
Even if you don't think that unschooling is the way your family will homeschool,

most homeschooling parents who worry that they aren't doing enough. |

The Well-Trained Mind: A Guide to Classical Education at
Home ~ Usually ships in 24
hours
Jessie Wise, Susan Wise Bauer / Hardcover / Published 1999
This book appears to be similar to Laura Berquist's in method. Though
not specifically written for Catholics, it is definitely well worth reading.
The author, Jessie Wise, wrote the following:
-
What is classical education? It is language-intensive, not image-focused.
It demands that the student use and understand words, not video images. It
is history-intensive, providing the student with a comprehensive view of
the human endeavour from the beginning until now. It trains the mind to analyze
and draw conclusions. It demands self-discipline. It produces literate, curious,
intelligent students who have a wide range of interests and the ability to
follow up on them. This book is a handbook on how to prepare your child to
read, write, calculate, think, and understand. In the prologue, we outline
exactly what a classical education is, and tell you about our own experience
with classical education and with school at home.
