Music &
Music Appreciation
At a very young age, children should be
introduced to beautiful, classical music. Later, when the study
of history begins, you can find music from the period being
studied. The internet and YouTube have made this a lot easier to
do, and many libraries have collections of classical music. The
children should have a vast array of songs memorized just by singing
them together as well.
The late grammar stage is a great time to
begin studying piano or some other instrument. Suzuki can be
started much earlier if time and budget allow.

The Adoremus Hymnal
This book has beautiful old hymns as well as the ordinary for several
chant Masses in both Latin and English. I have yet to see a
hymnal I like as well.

Alfred's Piano Book 1
Although I am far from a great pianist, I am able to teach my children
to play piano well using these books. They include theory as well
as nice songs throughout. I have them start 2 new songs each
week, and then on Fridays, we have "recitals." If a song is
mastered, they get a new one. If not, they keep working on it for
another week.

This is a wonderful
book with a good number of songs that are easy enough for young
children to sing, but I find that its best use it to learn new songs to
sing altogether.

Alfred's
Piano Book 2
|
|
This is a neat book
for grammar stage kids. The first half includes brief biographies
of composers starting in the late 1600s with Vivaldi with tracks on the
enclosed CD for many of the composers. The second half has great
pictures and descriptions of different instruments.
